What are the Primary Responsibilities of a Marketing Communications Director?

The Marketing Communications Director is responsible for developing and implementing global marketing communications plans that drive the demand for company products. The Director is responsible for the overall management of the Company’s Corporate Communications department. 

 

Duties include, but are not limited to of the Marketing Communications Director:

  • Directing the development and execution of global marketing communications initiatives including product launches, sales collateral, tradeshows, campaigns, social site presence, company website, public relations, internal communication, regulatory communications and corporate events.
  • Establish, own and drive a strategic internal and external communications strategy that positively affects employees’ and customers’ understanding, engagement and commitment with the result of an even stronger connection to the company and leads to a return on investment.
  • Ensure new communication campaigns and programs are aimed at reaching sales targets.
  • Manage brand delivery and consistency across all markets for all product lines.
  • Build and manage the corporate communications budget.
  • Actively lead, build and manage a corporate communications team including graphics designers, corporate communications specialists, media specialists and copy writers to produce high quality publications and materials on time and within budget.
  • Determine projects which should be completed internally and externally. Manage relationships with outside vendors as necessary.
  • Drive continual process improvements and implement best practices to manage projects efficiently.
  • Collaborate closely with managers in Marketing, Business Development and Sales.
  • Be the driving force in the development of the work ethic, culture and values of the Corporate Communications group. Through personal example, establish the style and approach which meets overall company values and expectations.
Requirements

A Marketing Communications Director will typically have a degree in communications, journalism, marketing or business related field and a minimum of 10 years’ experience in marketing communications in the high tech sector with upwards of 5 years’ experience managing a marketing communications team.

A Marketing Communications Director will demonstrate creative and critical thinking skills and be an excellent communicator with ability to influence and persuade across all levels of the organization.

What are the salary expectations of a Marketing Communications Director?

There is a huge variation in salary and reward largely dependent on scope and expectation but by virtue of requiring a Marketing Communications Director a business is likely to be c.£100M turnover and upward. With this in mind salaries will be in the range of £85K to £150K. Variable aspects of the package are likely to be linked to key individual and departmental objectives and / or to some key customer experience or perception measurables.
